My Students
Our school encourages and seeks to foster habits of inquiry and collaborative thinking. Our students follow their own questions into understanding of a topic. To encourage this discovery, my classroom needs to able to research quickly and use online resources to post and discuss their findings.
I teach fifth grade in a large, urban school district.
My students love to present and defend their ideas and challenge one another to think in different ways. At our school, we focus on the process of inquiry. We want our students to make their own connections to learning and then work to find out more.
My students have been very eager to learn more about our unit on exploration and have come up with great questions about early European explorers, Native American tribes, and our solar system. Our school is also internationally focused, with the goal of creating well-rounded learners who have the skills to be globally successful.
Often during our studies, students will get very excited about a question and want to explore. Unfortunately, we currently have limited access to technology and have to place these questions on hold, which can drain the excitement.
My Project
Students will use this Apple iPad Air tablet with protective case to conduct research as questions come up to keep our discussion and inquiry going.
Students will also use the iPad to utilize online programs for collaboration, like Google Classroom. They will post and answer questions, create discussions, and create a log of our inquiry journey.
This tablet will also be available during stations or reading time. It will expand the choices of books, activities, or games students can choose from during their learning time.
Giving my students the gift of more technology will be kindling to the spark of their curiosity.
Students will be more engaged, expand their learning by creating new questions, and be more excited to share with one another. We will also have more evidence of the rich, non-traditional learning that goes on in our classroom, and be able to show and discuss our strengths with our families.
