The North Carolina Holocaust Education Act was passed in 2021. This law requires the Holocaust to be taught in multiple grades, one of which is 10th grade. In a time when school district budgets are tight, getting the funding to purchase new materials is very hard.
Night is the required read for English II, and my school does not have enough copies to make a class set.
My students have to either purchase their own (which is not feasible for most of them), share with another student (if I can find copies that have all the pages remaining), or find an online PDF (in a district that has a no-device policy). This year, I have found 17 copies for my class of 32, so most students are sharing. They need more copies of the book.
