Representing Everyone; We Are All Human

Help me give my students books to learn about and appreciate Jewish people. Please help them understand that Jews have many colors, languages, viewpoints, and backgrounds. Please help my students learn to respect all people, including Jewish people.

My Project

There is a noticeable increase in Antisemitic hate crimes in the US and abroad in recent years. The FBI reports that Jews are the second most targeted minority group in the US. Further, considering the small size of the Jewish population, they are among the most targeted minority groups per-capita. Despite these alarming statistics, classroom discussions about racial justice and representation rarely, if ever, speak about these dire concerns. The disparities that affect various people groups are brought up in classroom discussions frequently, but the suffering Jewish people face daily is omitted. There is an urgent need to change this trend, if we are to ensure that all students feel safe, included, and represented in their learning and social environments.

Now, more than ever, it is crucial to teach children about the dangers of Antisemitism, while teaching them to fight all forms of bigotry and discrimination.

In an effort to build awareness, I would like to provide my students with books about Jewish diversity, Jewish culture, Jewish activism, and Jewish heroes. These will be included in educational activities and discussions covering racial equity and inclusion. The materials will cultivate students' understanding and appreciation for the culture, religion, and values that make minority groups unique and special. They will also learn how to stand up for the less represented among us.

As part of this project, students will complete thought provoking worksheets and projects. The ink refills for our printer, as well as the games and toys with a Jewish theme, will make these elements of our project possible.

Thank you for being part of this essential endeavor. One which will provide the most basic human needs of safety and belonging to all of our students and fellow humans.
