My Project

Adding representative literature like the Hazelwood High Trilogy, The Davenports, Blended, Monster (a graphic novel), and Stella by Starlight to our classroom library enriches students' learning experiences. These diverse books offer perspectives that reflect the varied backgrounds and identities of our students, fostering a more inclusive environment.

Each of these stories acts as both windows and mirrors for readers, offering unique perspectives and reflections.

The Hazelwood High Trilogy reflects the experiences of African American teenagers, providing both relatable characters and new perspectives. The Davenports showcases a wealthy African American family in the early 20th century, reflecting cultural pride and historical context. Blended explores a biracial girl's journey, offering insights into blended families and racial identity.

Monster (a graphic novel) delves into the criminal justice system's impact on a young African American boy, highlighting societal challenges. Stella by Starlight illuminates the resilience of the African American community in the segregated South, reflecting cultural heritage and strength.

These stories help create a classroom library that is both inclusive and empowering, allowing students to see themselves and others in the pages of these books.
