My Project
Adding books by Ann Liang and Grace Lin to our 6th-grade classroom library will help foster empathy and cultural understanding. Liang’s stories, such as If You Could See the Sun and This Time It’s Real, tackle themes of identity, self-discovery, and belonging, resonating with young readers. Lin’s works, like Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, weave Chinese folklore with universal themes of courage and family, making them both relatable and enriching.
Incorporating representative fiction into our 6th-grade classroom library is essential for fostering empathy, inclusion, and a deeper understanding of the diverse world we live in.
These books provide mirrors for students from diverse backgrounds to see themselves represented, instilling pride and belonging. They also act as windows for others to experience different cultures, broadening their horizons. Stories like Starry River of the Sky introduce rich cultural traditions, inviting curiosity and understanding.
By including these representative works, our library will become a more inclusive space that promotes critical thinking and diversity. These books inspire students to embrace empathy, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for the world, making their presence invaluable to their growth.
