My Project

I work with a diverse group of students. Most of the students in my classroom have some type of disability. Whether it be autism, cerebral palsy, a developmental delay, a limb difference, ADHD, or any other disability, my students work hard to learn and grow despite whatever challenge they face.

Having representation and teaching compassion are vital in my classroom.

My students are working on learning how to interact with each other and the world around them. Having dolls and accessories that represent my students will allow them to not only feel included in the classroom but will also foster conversations about differences and how to make everyone feel included. We will be able to talk about what makes everyone different and how we can help each other in order to make other's lives easier and more accessible. The books will also serve as a conversation starter about how people are born differently and what we can do in our classroom to help our classmates who may have these disabilities.

When my students start including everyone in their classroom in their play and encouraging and facilitating their learning, when appropriate, despite whatever challenge that child may face, I will know that they have learned how to show compassion.
