This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
To address the social and emotional needs of my new immigrant students to the United States, I am holding 2-hour after school sessions two times a week.
The first hour we will read and discuss the book Solito: A Memoir, the inspiring story of a child's migration from El Salvador to the United States at the age of nine, and the second hour will be comprised of small group trauma-informed and solution-focused sessions incorporating coping, anxiety, and resilience strategies for my students.
Your donation will help me build my library of English/Spanish bilingual books while I assist my students' transition to Chicago and the culture of the United States.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
