Help me give my students books that are high interest and reflect who they are in the world.

My Students
My students attend the oldest elementary school in the nation, but our school often struggles to provide necessary supplies and classroom materials due to yearly budget cuts. My 4th graders come to my classroom with a diverse range of needs, challenges, and experiences, and problems can arise from a lack of understanding about each other's cultures and lives.
My students are from African American and white American families, as well as recent immigrants from Vietnam, Cape Verde, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic; they are learning how to become serious students in the United States.
Some of my students are accustomed to 50-person classes where they only have access to materials in one way, and these super scholars need help with accessing information via different modalities.
My Project
These books will allow me to teach about racial divides in the United States, and how these divides have affected people of color over the years. In addition, this will allow me to facilitate more in-depth conversations amongst my diverse group of students.
Through each book the students read, they will learn the importance of learning about and respecting each other's cultures, rights, and differences.
One student last year said, "I'm tired of reading books that are only about white people." As an African American teacher, I have always put an emphasis on tolerance and diversity in my curriculum, but our current resources have a limited number of books, mainly with white American characters.
Your donation will help my students see themselves in literature and understand America's complicated history. Additionally, my students will be able to learn about each other's backgrounds and discuss their home experiences and cultures with one another.
