Representation Matters! Printing Posters Showcasing All Cultures and Countries
Help me give my students an opportunity to see their cultures represented in the school. By purchasing a color printer we can print posters of leaders of color in each respective content area. Representation Matters!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a diverse school in Brooklyn, NY. Relatively new, as it is only 10 years old, educators are continually trying to find new ways to incorporate a strong sense of community and culture.
Our students come from diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds, however we don't often see those cultures and backgrounds represented within the building.
It is not for lack of trying, but more, lack of resources. This year, with the support of our school's equity team and a passionate group of educators we would like to begin the school year by celebrating all student cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
First, for Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month, we have worked to make content specific posters highlighting Latinos who have made a difference in each of their respective fields. This was because upon hours of searching, we could not find pre-existing poster to purchase. Additionally, we have made posters for students to learn facts about different countries in Latin America. We would like these to live in the classrooms and in the hallways, because representation matters. Then, we would like to continue this for other racial and ethnic groups within our school, to showcase all cultures.
My Project
I went to Barnes and Noble, in an attempt to find books or posters of successful people of color. I can home empty handed. I went on Amazon.com with the same intention. I had the same result.
By purchasing a color printer to print posters showcasing successful people of color in each content area, we are showing students every day that they too can be a historian, or a scientist; their skin color is not an obstacle but an asset.
Help up get this printer. The posters are made and ready to print. Let's show students that people who look like them have gone above and beyond in their respective fields, and they can be just as successful too.
