Representation Matters: Multicultural Books for Classroom Library

Help me give my students some new books for our library. I have a very diverse group of students and I would love to get some more books to represent them and future students in our classroom.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As I browse my classroom library, I do not see many books that represent that diverse needs of my classroom. I know that these books will help create excitement around reading. And I hope that it fosters a love for reading at an early age. My library is part of our center and my students love sitting in there and reading.

There are so many cultures represented in my classroom and I would love to have books that they can look at and see themselves in.

I hope that this project will help me build a more inclusive classroom library. Representation matters. As a teacher of color, I never got books where I saw Asian characters and I want my students to experience that feeling. I know that it is important to have as much representation in my classroom as possible. My students are all unique and come from a variety of backgrounds and I hope these books will spark a joy of reading.

Kindergarten is such a fun grade and I want to bring a joy of reading to these students. I want to find books that they are interested in and I hope that they can find joy in seeing books about their background and their cultures. It also helps that they can browse and select the books they want to read and I hope that they will choose these particular books and get excited about them.
