This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Each week, students have time in class to "Drop Everything And Read." Our classroom library has been slowly expanding to include books that will engage and interest readers from all backgrounds. Our school is committed to creating an inclusive and safe learning environment for all students. Research has consistently shown that inclusivity is essential for teenagers in promoting positive social and emotional development. Adolescence is a time of significant growth and development, and creating a safe and inclusive environment can help teenagers navigate the challenges they face during this period.
Representation matters for 9th graders because it provides them with opportunities to explore and learn about different perspectives and experiences.
Exposure to various perspectives and experiences can help teenagers break down stereotypes, promote understanding and acceptance of differences, and foster empathy and compassion. These books have been specifically chosen to highlight underrepresented communities and storytellers in our classroom library. These authentically representative narratives can have a powerful impact beyond the classroom.
