Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We, in California, do not have laws to prohibit teachings of critical race theory. However, most text books and other literature still whitewash history. My students need books that not only represent them but also teach them about real contributions that African Americans made as well as the struggles and abuses that they faced.
I am going to use the class set of One Crazy Summer during my reading instruction time.
The rest of the books will be used in the class library. I want my students--whether they are Black or not--to have access to books written by Black authors all year round, not just for February.
