My Project
I work at a wonderful school with incredible students & families. But due to issues outside of their control, not every student comes to school with their basic needs met. I want students to be able to focus their attention on learning -- not meeting their basic needs. For this reason, I keep a "care shelf" in my classroom with basic items such as deodorant, hair ties, toothbrushes, & snacks.
When I introduce the shelf at the beginning of the year, I can see students relax.
They know they will be taken care of in this classroom. This helps build relationships & a sense of safety -- crucial aspects of learning! But the materials go quickly, and I cannot always replenish them on my own.
