My students need a CD player because most of our curriculum is still on CD and ours quit working this year. We also need instruments due to ours getting old and falling apart.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach the entire school, grades Pre-K through 5th.

Our students live in a low socio-economic neighborhood, but have risen above their circumstances.

Our principal came into the school twelve years ago when it was one of the lowest performing schools in the district, and turned it around to be one of the highest performing schools in the district.

Our students have won awards in academics, art, music, chess and other disciplines. They participate in, and/or compete in the science fair, spelling bee, chess tournaments, All City Honor Choir, Music Memory Competition, etc. They are amazing!

My Project

Our students rise above; they are amazing. Our school is in a low-income district and our resources are few, but our students don't let that hold them back. Unfortunately, as our instruments and equipment get old and start to fall apart, and electronics wear out, we are unable to replace them.

We need a new CD player because ours quit working this year right before a PTA meeting; much of our curriculum is still on CDs.

I play piano, but prefer to conduct as they perform.

Our classes are also getting bigger due to increased student/teacher ratios, so I do not have enough xylophones for all students. Even with this new purchase, some students will have to share. Yet, since this is my first project, I'm starting with one.
