"What are we learning today?" That's something that I hear from my students every day before they even enter the classroom. No matter what kind of morning they've had, they come to school with an enthusiasm that never ceases to astonish me.
My students are diverse with various learning needs and challenges.
We are a Title I school, helping to meet the needs of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. My students are hardworking, inspired students who amaze me every single day. I look forward to providing them with everything they deserve to have, including a classroom where they can all feel safe, understood and accepted for exactly who they are.
My Project
Our classroom has been truly transformed by technology. In just the past few years, we've gone from a lab full of just desktop computers to multiple 3D printers, robots, video games, virtual reality headsets, and even a laser cutter! The upside to having all of these options is incredible. However, over time, parts are bound to break and things need to be replaced.
Unfortunately, in the past month, the tube on our laser cutter has died and the cord on our Oculus Rift that allows it to function broke.
Without replacements, both of these incredible learning tools are just paperweights. A new 45 watt laser tube will provide slightly more power and a life span two to three times longer than the 40 watt tube we had previously. A new cord for our Oculus Rift VR headset will allow us to replace the broken one and get students back into virtual worlds of learning!
Being that this is a room used by all students in the school, getting these two items will open up so many options for over 600 students in our school. That includes the many students on the spectrum, with Down's, or with various learning disabilities. Virtual reality is one of the things that many special education students in the school request for a reinforcement that they've earned. I want to make sure that I can continue to provide that for them long into the future!
