My students need new scalpels due to our current ones being rusted. They also need disposable aprons for the heart dissection that is scheduled in April.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have two quotes that I run my classroom by and teach my students to use, “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” Edison' and "The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not 'Eureka!' but 'That's funny..."' Asimov.
My students are living in extreme poverty.
For many of my students the only meals they have in a day come from our school. The majority of their structure comes from the school environment and recreational activities. The school is full of students that want to rise above poverty, however, it takes quite a bit to break the cycle. Students are actively engaged in breaking the cycle. My students love hands-on activities which makes the science classroom one of their favorites. With all of the hands-on that goes on, students always come each day seeking a new experience.
My Project
Recently our Donors Choose project was funded for sheep hearts. While we have the dissection tools, previous teachers maintenance standards were not up to standards. Our scalpels are rusting along with many of the other tools. I would love to replace our tools with brand new ones that I can keep safe and clean. Students will use these materials to dissect sheep hearts to learn about human hearts. Due to sheep hearts only being slightly smaller than human hearts and affordable, they make the perfect learning resource. Students are looking forward to their dissection day and would love to have new tools to use and aprons that are not falling apart.
Donations to this project will allow students to use working tools for dissection.
It will also help to keep our students safe, in case a student happens to cut themselves it will not be with a rusted scalpel.
