Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are my inspiration. My kindergarten classroom consists of 25 children from all different backgrounds. I have a large percent of beginner English language learners. The rest of my class consists of students with special needs and general education students.

More importantly my students are funny, energetic, creative, frustrated, shy, silly, curious, but most of all resilient.

All the diversity makes for a great teaching experience, but it also makes it difficult to meet the various needs of the students in my classroom.

Every morning I start fresh and do my best to reach the needs, whatever they may be, of each child. My school has a very large population of low, socio-economic students. My school is a Title I school. Many of the children live in shelters and live in large multi-generational households. It would be awesome to give all these children the opportunity to meet their optimal potential.

My Project

A math center that has ample materials and manipulatives is extremely important for kindergarten children to learn and stay engaged throughout the different math units and lessons. Over the last year, I have given out many materials from my classroom in order to support my blended learning students, while they were home on remote days. In anticipation that all students will be returning to school full time in person next year, I want my classroom to be ready.

I would like to replace, replenish, and restore many of the math centers and manipulatives in my classroom.

Math manipulatives, such as dominos, dice, and magnetic numbers can be used throughout the school year as we go through each unit. The best way to organize all these new supplies and even our old ones is with the 20 clear view bins. I know with your support, our math center will be even better than before.
