I am a music teacher at Novato Charter School in Novato, California. Novato Charter School is a Waldorf methods public school with a very strong music program. Every student from grade 4 through 8 studies instrumental music at our school. Our instrumental music classes meet three times per week and perform at two formal concerts each school year as well as at school assemblies and festivals. Students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades are allowed to choose either string class or recorder class. The recorder is a woodwind instrument that is inexpensive and easy to learn. The students in each recorder class choose to play soprano, alto, tenor, or bass recorder. All together these instruments make up a full consort and produce beautiful music. Many of our students enjoy learning to play the larger tenor and bass recorders. These recorders add much depth and beauty to our ensembles. Our students take very good care of their instruments, however, over the years normal wear has caused many of them to fall into disrepair. Because they are inexpensive plastic instruments, they are usually not repairable. Our two bass recorders are in very bad shape and are barely playable. These instruments are a very valued and much loved part of our recorder classes, but our students have a difficult time playing them with their broken keys and other worn parts. We would like 2 new bass recorders to replace our old worn and falling apart bass recorders.
