Help me give my students a Hand2Mind Math Fluency kit to repair and build foundational number concepts. My kids with learning disabilities work hard to bridge the gap between present levels and grade-level standards. Let's lift them up!
I have a classroom of absolutely amazing students who have traditionally struggled in school and have learning disabilities or IEPs. When they come to my room, they have no sense that they can learn or that things will make sense; when they leave me at the end of fifth grade, they are at or close to grade level, actively engaged in their learning, and highly-motivated and confident.
My students set personal academic goals and work on them daily.
They each serve as a peer coach to another student or students. All of them learn to be fearless academic risk-takers, unafraid of making mistakes and encouraging themselves and others. I design and write most of their materials or use things found at other teaching websites, customizing the work for them .
We work deeply and intensely on grade-level. as well as remedial skills, concepts, and units of study. We are a family, a learning community unlike any I have ever seen before. To watch the lightbulbs switch on, to see them grow and blossom throughout the year and become intensely, passionately interested in the learning is a marvelous thing to behold.
My Project
My third, fourth and fifth graders with mild-moderate learning disabilities come to my class with fairly significant math deficits. They struggle with basic number sense and are missing many of the skills and concepts taught in prior grades, which makes accessing grade-level curriculum and standards increasingly difficult over the years.
Hands2 Mind's math fluency kit for third grade is exactly what my students need to bridge the gap between where they are and where they need to be, mathematically.
I am able to teach both remedial and grade-level math concepts to all of the kids with differentiated strategies and instructional techniques.
They ALL need more practice in third-grade math concepts, and Hands2Mind is the perfect intervention for my amazing learners. With this daily practice system, they will emerge from the nest of my classroom ready for middle school !
