My students need 30 Alfred's Basic repertoire books to expand their skills using our new keyboard lab. They currently are only using one basic book at this time. New music is needed.
Our piano lab is a dream come true. Eighteen students at our high school are the first to take this elective and are in need of music repertoire. Students are excited to practice and learn new skills. They now need a variety of books for piano practice and performance.
The enrollment at our high school is 1324.
Our free and reduced price lunch population is over 50%. Our students now have the opportunity to take piano as an elective but cannot afford piano books. This is a "hands on" elective based on differentiated instruction. Students are taught individually as well as in a group setting. Our students are working from a piano method book which includes theory, technic, and piano selections. They have worked so hard they now need a variety of music especially with the holidays approaching.
My Project
Eighteen students have keyboards and practice at their own rate. Added books would increase their interest to pursue a variety of music from popular to holiday music. Each piece of music offers new challenges to a beginner pianist and they would have the chance to experience new repertoire with the purchase of new piano books. Our students are willing to share with each other and work in pairs while learning new music.
This donation would provide resources for this new piano elective and help each individual student gain the experience of learning outside of the traditional theory/technic book.
I strongly believe students deserve the opportunity to try new music and venture towards more advanced piano skills. These books are in alignment with our textbooks we are currently using and would be a tremendous asset for our students.
