Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a second grade teacher in the East New York section of Brooklyn. All of my students receive free school lunch.
My students enjoy reading, whether they are reading independently, with a partner or in groups. They also love when I read to them, and are able to become actively engaged in the literature. I am so happy that my students have been able to develop a love for reading, and I hope that it will lead them to countless successes for them in the future.
Now that the school year is past the half-way point, I would like to add some new books to our classroom library in an effort to renew and refresh my students' interest in reading. I like to give my students things to look forward to, whether that means watching a nature program, visiting the public library, or playing a round of Jeopardy. I know that if the kids have some new books within their reach, they will be even more motivated to read and to learn.
