Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My growing kindergarten class now holds 23 students who are eager to express themselves in various ways. They love to create art work, particularly for friends and loved ones.
Our school opened its doors 3 years ago as a K-2nd grade school.
Since then, we've grown to add pre-k, 3rd, and 4th grade classes. My students are members of this school because their parents believe in nurturing their love of nature and exploration. They are inquisitive 5 and 6 year old students who enjoy self-expression in various forms.
My Project
In our inaugural year, I completed a DonorsChoose proposal for construction paper and art supplies to encourage my students to express themselves in all areas of our curriculum. Since that proposal, countless art pieces have been created and many smiles have shone across the faces of the recipients of such great works. Unfortunately, after 3 years, our resources are quickly fading. Our washable watercolor paints are muddled and missing large areas. We have 2 sheets left of our heavy weight watercolor paper -- not enough for our students to continue to share their creativity. Not enough to create our annual rainbow names.
By funding this proposal, you will provide my students with new washable watercolor paints.
They will be able to paint to their hearts' content to create "Get Well" books for friends recovering from injuries. Future classes will benefit from the remaining materials as they get to continue on the kindergarten tradition of rainbow names on our walls.
