By the time students get to high school, many have counted out math as a strength. They may even think of math as a weakness area. When students enter my math intervention classroom, I want them to see math as much more than algorithms and equations, word problems and worksheets. Using games for problem solving, strategic thinking, and as a relationship builder will help create an environment where students begin to see success in math.
I will break down barriers in trust and relationships by kicking off my math interventions with games that engage students in the foundations of learning math -- problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and fun!
By using games, the classroom will be more engaging for students but also will challenges students' beliefs about their skills in math and even what math learning is.
It will engage them in learning they won't even realize is "math"!
