Help me give my students the opportunity to continue to learn and receive the benefits of school-based OT from the comfort of their own home in this time of uncertainty and constant change!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Global health conditions have made for teachers and therapists to get out their comfort zone to reach students, accommodate parents, and meet education goals. Classrooms are being replaced with computer hubs, playgrounds and entertainment venues have been closed, and peer socialization has been replaced with video-conferencing and limited play dates. Nevertheless, let's not think of this as lost time, let's consider this as an opportunity for parent engagement and teaching our students innovative methods of learning!
My students are elementary school-aged kiddos that have varying abilities & learning needs who aspire to do their best every day!
In school-based OT, education goals include increasing strength and coordination, promoting attention to task, and environment modification. As our learning environments have transitioned from the classroom to students' homes, it is still my job to support the teacher in achieving students' education goals with remote school-based OT strategies, while coaching students and parents along the way!
My Project
No one imagined that everyone's home environment would become their classroom and/or daily work space, but with the right tools and committed educator team, optimal teaching and learning can be achieved.
With a good computer and printer in place, accessories such as a document camera, wireless earphones & mouse, and basic office supplies would ultimately support an efficient home workspace for an educator.
Top-of-the-line ear phones would promote effective communication with students and their team to deliver personalized therapeutic recommendations (while eliminating distractions from a Kindergartner who is distance-learning as well.) A document camera will facilitate the visual demonstration of a tabletop activity and/or written material via real-time intervention (without having to scan and/or print material, thus saving time and our environment). Office supplies, such as paper and printer ink, would allow the opportunity to print worksheets and mail to families that do not have computer and/or printing access. Upon the reopening of schools, requested items can be utilized in the classroom to continue promoting an innovative method to the delivery of school-based OT.
There is nothing better than in-person intervention, but join me in maximizing the benefit of remote school-based OT to support students in their academic journey through this unprecedented time.
