This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a diverse first grade, integrated collaborative teaching (ICT) class, with a combined mixture of general and special education students at a large, high-needs, Title I school in the north Bronx. Although the majority of students come from low-income homes or from homes with limited parental school-involvement, they are enthusiastic and truly come to school every day ready to learn. These children see school as a consistent part of their daily lives and strive daily to make me proud.
My 24 first graders are some of the happiest children I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
Not only do several of them struggle with unstable home lives, but many cope with various disabilities, such as ADHD, autism, and speech and language impairments. These kids inspire me to provide the best education I can for them.
My Project
The transition from in person to remote learning has been a difficult one for my little learners. Many of them are unable to focus due to distractions around them, so i would like to provide them with headphones to help them concentrate during our zoom classes. I think they would be able to concentrate much better if they had headphones connected to their devices, thus shutting out extraneous noise.
We are also requesting a TPT gift card so that we can purchase digital resources such as boom cards and virtual field trips to engage the students.
Being that they are so young, it’s difficult for them to sit for long periods of time during asynchronous learning, therefore, i believe if we were to provide them with engaging activities, they would be able to focus better.
