Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Our school is a completely remote, public school. This alternative education setting supports students for whom in-person learning was not possible. Since our start three years ago, we continually look for ways to offer a better learning experience for our students.

We provide a welcome package with items that support student learning at home.

We serve more than one hundred and fifty students with new students starting weekly. Some of the welcome items are listed in this project: headphones, white boards, laminated reference materials, and calculators.

Headphones with microphones are used daily for meetings with teachers, online live tutoring sessions, and for accessing imbedded audio and video files in their lessons. Whiteboards are used to practice math skills, sketch out diagrams, and to take notes. Laminated sheets are provided by teachers to help with daily routines and other support materials. Calculators are a useful analog tool for students to check their calculations in math and science.
