My Students
My students are from a large, urban community that are interconnected and socialized. They bring a special blend of cultural diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences and pizzazz to our school. We are a Title I school in a low-income community; I have thirty-one vibrant students in my classroom with varying abilities and circumstances: temporary housing, doubled-up housing, and IEPs. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our building each day, which are now remotely served.
My Project
I never imagined that I would find myself remotely teaching from home, and that my students would be learning new material through video conferencing calls and recorded home videos. Yet, here we are being innovative and making it happen!! Especially for those who will engage in summer learning.
My ROCKSTAR students have blown my mind with their ability to adapt and rise to the remote learning occasion.
As their teacher, I want to keep that momentum going and meet their needs accordingly. My amazing students have been working incredibly hard using the assignments that I have given them with Google Classroom, YouTube, and Audible Stories. Now that we will continue remote learning through the summer, live lessons are critical and honestly, what my students need more than anything else. The laptop that this project would fund would allow me to make recordings of me teaching for my students as well as help me to have multiple screens opened at once while hosting live class sessions. Additionally, I would be able to use sites such as screencastify to record. This is the gift that keeps on giving because once we return to the building, I will be able to add this laptop to my technology station for student use. Differentiation is key and vital to the success of my students!!
