Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
These are extraordinary times. I never would have imagined that when my students and I said goodbye on March 16th it would mean that it was our last day in the classroom. However, the year is not over yet!
My students and I have joined together on the distance learning journey!
We are actively engaged in various platforms of learning new materials. My students and I participate three times a week in Google Meet to go over new material, check-in with each other, share new stories, birthdays, and ask one another questions. We also share and discuss Seesaw navigating issues. My students and I are both new users with Seesaw. I am able to relate to parents and student questions as we all transition into remote learning. In addition, I am recording lessons at home for my kindergarten students to view and continue to learn new material. I am amazed by their level of engagement and participation, and families' willingness to try new things. Kindergarten students are very creative, fun-loving children. These spirited students come from low-income households with minimal experience with the world outside of their small community. I am extremely happy with my students' drive to grow academically.
My Project
Please help me give my students reading and math materials for home and distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students are not able to leave their homes due to the quarantine in Chicago. My students would enjoy receiving reading and math materials to academically explore during these last two months of the school year and summer months.
My students will progress their love of reading with a new variety of stories to read that will enhance their reading and comprehension skills and math materials to explore and challenge their imaginations.
I plan to create student reading and math kits that will contain grade-level skilled reading stories and challenging math activities to explore during the summer months. These kits will also include hands-on learning materials that make learning exciting!
