My Students

The students that I work with attend a high poverty school that serves children with disabilities in New York. I teach as an ESL teacher in all different classes as an integrated one in a 12:1:1 (12 students: 1 teacher: 1 paraprofessional), 8:1:1, and 6:1:1 from kindergarten to fifth-grade classes. My students have different learning disabilities such as autism and intellectual disabilities. I work in one of the highest need areas in NYC and almost all my students rely on our free breakfast and lunch program. My students vary in academic levels, interests, behaviors and learning styles. All of my students have very unique needs and learn very differently. I am constantly searching for ways to engage them in learning and help each and every child achieve their best.

My Project

My students must keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark an interest in reading. Education is changing every single day, and so are the interest of my students. Students in my classroom like to read about superheroes and villains. My school media center doesn't have a large collection of books, so I would like to have books that will hold their interests and keep them reading in my classroom.

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
