Help me give my students the reading and writing tools they will need to continue to grow academically, as we prepare to learn remotely.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Nix's classroom raised $591

My Students
My second grade students are always anxious to become better readers!
They love to read along with books and respond to what they have read in a variety of ways.
They enjoy talking about the books they read with their classmates, drawing pictures that go along with the stories, and retelling their favorite parts of a book.
Even though our school is located in a low income area and often dangerous part of the city, my students are very positive and eager to learn. There is a wide range of reading abilities in my classroom, but every student works hard to become a better reader and a successful student. I hope that I can help them become their best by providing them with the tools that they need to achieve their goals.
My Project
The composition notebooks, pencils, and crayons will be used in a variety of ways, for example to write journal entries, to respond to literature in words and drawings, and to write narrative and expository pieces with illustrations.
I will use the heavy cardstock to provide reusable, laminated templates for targeted skills, that students can use to practice daily.
Students will use the dry erase markers to practice these crucial skills. For example, they will be used for writing sight words and practicing penmanship among other things. Ordinarily, students would be provided consumable workbooks for practicing these skills, but this will be a way students can engage in practicing these skills at home that they really enjoy! The laminated materials can be differentiated so that every student is working on the skills that are necessary for individual growth.
I will use the baggies to create a remote learning hands on toolkit that each child can use from home. These materials will give my students the hands on practice that they need to maintain academic growth at this crucial stage. They will be able to bring these items to share with our class each day, and they will be able to "unplug" and get the hands on practice that is critical at this stage.
I want to keep my students focused on learning, engaged in reading and writing, and my goal is that they do not spend an excessive amount of time in front of a computer screen.
