My Students

I teach 160 creative, inquisitive minds at Newark Charter School. While my students vary based on skill level and ability, they thrive from hands-on learning. Hands-on learning is so important and helps solidify what they are learning in class. I love witnessing the “aha moments” during labs where a concept finally makes sense, but working remotely during this pandemic has currently made lab activities challenging. With your help, we can change this and make sure that each child has the necessary materials to complete the lab from home. I am excited to witness the students’ virtual “aha moments” again.

My Project

Currently all of my students are learning remotely. It has been challenging, but I want to provide the best learning experience for my students during this pandemic. This project would allow my students to actively participate in our labs by providing each student with the necessary equipment to perform a successful lab from home. Students would have the opportunity to apply their knowledge about Newton’s Laws with hands-on learning. I am excited to see what type of vehicle they will design using Newton’s 3rd Law or observe them calculating acceleration using a toy car. Students will also benefit from interactive lessons on Earth’s Interior as we learn more about plate tectonics in our upcoming unit.
