My Students
My students are from a large, urban community that are interconnected and socialized. They bring a special blend of cultural diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences and pizzazz to our school. We are a Title I school in a low-income community; I have twenty-one vibrant students in my classroom with varying abilities and circumstances: temporary housing, doubled-up housing, and IEPs. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our building each day, which are now remotely served.
My students are resilient, STRONG, and enthusiastic about learning.
The majority of my students read below grade level. They would benefit from a variety of classroom resources to help increase their success in our newly established distance remote learning platform. As of March 13th, my students began learning at home. School will continue to be closed due to the COVID-19 virus for the rest of the school year. This presents a challenge, as most of my students do not have access to supplies in their homes.
My Project
I never imagined that I would find myself remotely teaching from home, and that my students would be learning new material through video conferencing calls and recorded home videos. Yet, here we are being innovative and making it happen!!
My ROCKSTAR students have blown my mind with their ability to adapt and rise to the remote learning occasion.
As their teacher, I want to keep that momentum going and meet their needs accordingly. My amazing students have been working incredibly hard using the assignments that I have given them with Google Classroom, YouTube, and Audible Stories. Now that we will continue remote learning through the remainder of the school year, live lessons are critical and honestly, what my students need more than anything else. The whiteboard and dry erase markers included in this project would serve as a tool that I can use during Google Meet meetings to go over material easily, and to display anchor charts during recorded lessons. I will also be able to use it with future classes in the classroom during small groups.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
