Remote Learning Challenges!

Help me give my students technology at home (laptop and tablets) as many of my students are working but without technology.

My Students

We have been impacted as many cities with COVID 19 and it has greatly impacted learning. We are currently using a remote learning model to educate our students. This is has been hard to handle, roll out, and wrap our brains around. Covid-19 has greatly impacted my students and families this year. Currently, I work in a title one school and we opted to not send home technology devices with students in kindergarten. We are not a 1:1 technology school so technology is limited at my school and at home for many of my students. With digital learning, this has become a daunting challenge. Because technology was not provided to my students I have been charged with the challenge of using a variety of distance and remote teaching methods. My goal is to have adequate materials in place for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. In Charlotte, my students will start school on August 17th, 2021, and will have a week of remote learning for the week of the Republican National Convention which is scheduled to take place in Charlotte.

My Project

But my students, and parents are showing perseverance as they get adjusted to the new normal. In order to make remote learning work, you need technology. Unfortanley many of my students don't have the technology needed.

With technology, I am able to ZOOM with my students.

They are able to see me as well as their peers. This way they still feel connected to the school. They are also able to continue using resources from class such as Seesaw, Get Epic Books, ABC Mouse, Learn A-Z, Dreambox, and Splashmath. All are wonderful educational apps that serve as learning platforms when students are allotted free classroom time.

We now know this will be our new normal for the 2020-2021 school year because we will have designated days with remote learning. I am in need of more devices to ensure my students have a great start and end to the school year and we are able to do whatever is needed to ensure learning is a continuum.
