My Project

Our very rural school (K-12) in Alaska is finally getting a Family and Consumer Sciences class back after decades of not having one. I have the privilege of teaching this class to our middle and high school students next year. These students are from very low-income families, some completely off-grid, and depend on subsistence living for survival. I need to supply my classroom for this endeavor as our school district has very little funding and we have no tax base to draw from.

Providing my students with a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable learning experience is my number one goal.

This class is supposed to teach my students everything they need to know to have a successful home, not just the old home economics of cooking and sewing. I hope to provide my students on day one with their weekly planner so they can keep track of their assignments all year long. I feel being organized is the best way for all households to succeed.

I am also asking for normal school supplies (staplers, notecards, scissors, page protectors, paper trays, markers/sharpies, notecard rings, sticky notes, and stickers) and kitchen supplies (kitchen sets, thermometers, liquid measuring cups, and spatula sets) in this project so my students and classroom will have the tools to make learning fun and hands-on (who doesn't like eating their creations? I hope to give my students the basic skills they need to become self-sufficient and confident adults.
