This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I serve as a reading teacher at a Title I school in the Bronzeville neighborhood on Chicago's south side. The majority of the students are low income (92%) and most are African American (98%).
My students are bright, inquisitive and lovable.
They are middle schoolers who are learning about the world around them and how they fit in! We are an IB world school, engaging students in inquiry-based lessons. When youth can apply class lessons to their lives they create amazing results. They enjoy hands-on projects and learning by doing.
With your help, I will be better able to assist my students and give them the best possible learning experience.
My Project
Inspiring students to make connections between their lives and the world around them is important. I am requesting supplies that students will read and use to create interactive notebooks. Encouraging students to take responsibility for their learning and engage harmoniously is the ultimate desired outcome. Tangibly we will maintain organized notes and reflect on reading material in a way that encourages creativity.
The notebook will be assessed for components, organization, content and aesthetics.
Notebooks will include examples of reading strategies and literary elements. Students will record analyses of their own. Students will have created their own reference for reading texts.
