My Students

Welcome to Miss H's Classroom! My students are all in Special Education. They are faced with many challenges including educational labels, disabilities, poverty, and social challenges that come with being people of color. I focus on teaching my students how to be tenacious while building literacy and school success skills.

My students are also faced with the challenge of developing into the next generation of leaders, creators, inventors, and role models.

They deserve to be well versed in current events, voice informed opinions about crucial societal issues, and have the literacy skills necessary to pursue their passions.

My students are eager to learn and push through their struggles as I model tenacity in my own life. Help urban teens build skills to become college and career ready!

My Project

My students will use these Scholastic magazines to learn about reading non-fiction texts. They will learn about text features, scanning for critical information, summarizing main ideas, and reading non text features such as pictures, charts, and graphs.

Help my students become readers, critical thinkers and reflective young adults.

Remember, they are the future leaders!

Scholastic magazines will provide them relevant texts with meaning articles about current events and important issues in today's changing society. I have asked for enough copies so that my students will each have their own magazine. When you come from a background of poverty, shared living or homelessness, it's a big deal to have something of your own.

Thank you for considering funding my students and their literacy goals.
