Relaxing is the Key to Calming and Learning

Help me give my students comfortable and relaxing items to fill calming spaces at school so that their mental health needs can be met in order to support their learning.

My Students

I am an elementary school social worker in a great neighborhood with the most loving, kind, and enthusiastic students. These students make coming to work rewarding and fun, each and every day! They share a love for learning and a unique curiosity about the world ahead of them.

Each student brings their own story with a distinct personality and desire for learning.

Whether they are good at art, math, physical education, reading, science or something else - our students want to grow in their own special way. Our school really embraces the model of the school family in learning and contributing in a helpful way to those around us.

My Project

Research has shown that self-regulation is the key to effective learning. These items will be used to spruce up spaces at school and help them become more relaxing environments for students to learn to calm their bodies. When students are able to effectively calm their own bodies, more learning is able to happen.

The rug and chair will be used to make a more welcoming environment in the school social work office so that students and families feel welcome and comfortable enough to learn and share personal information. The sensory light bubble tube and light projector will be used in the school calming room to add a more calming effect to the room that is used regularly for students struggling with anxiety, grief, major life changes, etc.
