Research has shown that self-regulation is the key to effective learning. These items will be used to spruce up spaces at school and help them become more relaxing environments for students to learn to calm their bodies. When students are able to effectively calm their own bodies, more learning is able to happen. “Create a safety nest for students so that they learn and thrive and, when they eventually fly, they soar.” ~Kristin Van Marter Souers. The rug and chair will be used to make a more welcoming environment in the school social work office so that students and families feel welcome and comfortable enough to learn and share personal information. The sensory light bubble tube and light projector will be used in the school calming room to add a more calming effect to the room that is used regularly for students struggling with anxiety, grief, major life changes, etc.
