This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project is geared around mental health for students with Autism. A lot of times students with Autism struggle with sensory overload in classroom and it can lead to things like stress, behaviors, mental breakdowns, and extreme anxiety. There have been studies that show the effects of watching aquatic animals on mental health and it has shown a positive effect on students with sensory issues. Almost as if watching the fish swim calms individuals down and can be cathartic to watch especially if you are stressed out.

This fish tank is the exact thing that would do that in my special education classroom.

It would be a centerpiece of the classroom where the kids could glance over at it from time to time to get that mental decompression. The sound of the water would be relaxing as well. The kids could also take the responsibility of asking care of the fish and keeping them fed. I understand the price id s lot but something large and sturdy would be required for a special day class like this. This would be a very cool addition to the classroom for many years to come!
