Relaxation Station: Unwind, Recharge, and Empower Your Mental Health

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As an Algebra I teacher in a Title I district, I see firsthand the immense pressure my students face with frequent assessments and high expectations. To support their mental health, I propose creating a "Relaxation Station" in our classroom—an inviting space where students can take needed mental breaks.
By providing flexible seating options like beanbags, stress-relieving games, and coloring books, my students will have a sanctuary to unwind and recharge.
This area will encourage social bonding and foster a sense of community, allowing students to connect with one another and build friendships.
My goal is to create an environment where students feel safe to express themselves, ultimately enhancing their academic performance and motivation. When they meet testing goals, I will celebrate their achievements with rewards like Croc charms and creative bonding activities, reinforcing the importance of mental health. If the entire class meets their academic goals, I would love to reward the entire class with mental health days where we can spend getting to know one another, as it is important to feel wanted in a classroom community.
My students are resilient and capable, often balancing multiple responsibilities outside of school. By empowering them to prioritize their mental wellness through the Relaxation Station, we can cultivate a positive classroom atmosphere where learning thrives.
