This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach first-grade children at a public school. There are 23 children in my class. Our children are creative, inquisitive, loquacious, and independent. They love to express themselves through play. They love to express themselves through creative outlets such as writing and reading. Our children love to read and make up their own stories as they enjoy books throughout the day. They also enjoy music.

Our school is located in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Our school is a title one school. Due to this, sometimes resources are not available for us to purchase items needed to our classrooms. Most of our students come from low-income households. Despite their hardships, they come to school every day with smiles on their faces and they are eager for a day of exploration, discovery, ​and learning. We are here ready to receive them to guide their journeys of knowledge.

My Project

Having a radio helps our children throughout the day. During independent reading and writing, I like to play some soft music to help them relax. I play instrumental and classical music during these times. In the morning and after lunchtime, I play them some more active music group songs, songs to get them started and going with their long day.

Music is the catalyst that keeps us wanting more.

Time to move, time to relax and time to learn. When the music plays we learn, remember, and feel better. With a new CD player, I will be feeding my children beautiful melodies to accompany them during their learning.
