Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach highly motivated students who are new to the country. In my class, they are working on their English language development. We do tons of group work, so they can practice their English speaking skills. I currently have students from Vietnam, China, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Iran, Argentina, and Taiwan. They love working together and learning about each other’s culture and unique perspectives.
I have equally motivated Sophomore Honors students, who are working hard to balance the demands of 2-4 honors/ AP classes, sports, and clubs.
My Project
Many of my students are struggling from anxiety and lack of sleep. My honor students are frequently up late doing 2-4 hours of homework after sports or band practice. Many of my English Language Learners are exhausted from spending the entire day focusing on school work in a foreign language. Many are also balancing the demands of clubs, sports, jobs, family duties, and homework after school.
I would like to make my classroom a more inviting and comfortable place for my students in order to reduce their anxiety and make it more conducive for cooperative learning.
I’m looking to add some seats that can quickly be moved into groups for discussions.
