This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are resilient first graders, mostly from low-income households who love to learn and are excited to be back in school together.
Their infectious Enthusiasm & Eagerness to Learn, Explore, Build, and Grow creates mutual enjoyment in school each day.
My Project
Storytelling is a great way to engage young learners in conversations about social situations and self-esteem. Oftentimes, the literature suggested by our curriculum lacks diversity in the characters or in the setting, or both
These books reflect a range of characters and topics my students will be able to relate to.
They contain both male and female main characters in addition to diverse settings that lend themselves to a myriad of relatable topics.
The stories additionally lend themselves to rich dialogue about their own personal experiences. This will help us get to know each other through our stories.
