My Students

We are busy first graders! I begin each math lesson with a "Number Talk" to encourage students to look for patterns they see as they determine value. Color patterned rekenreks are a wonderful tool to build my students' perceptual and mental counting skills.

I teach first graders!

They come from varied socioeconomic backgrounds. Parent involvement is high and the population is generally well-educated. My school includes pre-k through sixth grade and our total student enrollment is over 850. We also house many children with special needs who are included in our class when possible.

My Project

I would love for each child to have their own rekenrek to use throughout the year as we develop number sense. I have a couple and the children love them; however, there just aren't enough to go around. I envision the children using them daily as we count, add, subtract, and model explanations.

I appreciate any donation to ensure that all my students have daily access to this wonderful hands-on math tool.

Rekenreks will not only build their visual perception of numbers but will allow students to see relationships among numbers.
