This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Rekenreks are powerful math tools that help students develop number sense, fluency, and problem-solving skills. Many of my intervention students struggle with foundational concepts like composing and decomposing numbers, making tens, and understanding addition and subtraction.
With Rekenreks, my students will:
Visualize numbers to reduce reliance on finger counting.
Develop mental math strategies like making ten and doubles.
Strengthen place value understanding through hands-on practice.
These tools provide the structured support my students need to build confidence and improve their math skills.
I aim to give intervention students engaging, hands-on resources to strengthen their foundational math skills. Specifically, I want to:
Improve their number sense and fluency.
Increase their confidence in math.
Transition them from counting strategies to efficient mental math.
Close learning gaps and move them toward grade-level proficiency.
Rekenreks will make abstract math concepts more accessible, setting students up for long-term success.
My students are bright, determined learners who face challenges in math but never give up. They thrive when given interactive tools that make learning engaging and meaningful.
While math may not come quickly, they embrace challenges and celebrate small victories. With the proper support, they can turn struggles into successes. This project will give them the tools to build confidence and unlock their full potential in math.
