I teach fifth grade at a K-8 elementary school in the Sierra Nevada foothills. My students are growing up together in a small, tight-knit community school. I have diverse learning needs throughout my classroom but all of my students are eager, enthusiastic and innovative despite our low socioeconomic and Title I status. They are enjoying collaborative, hands-on projects and working together to accomplish a goal.
This is my first year teaching fifth grade.
I'm excited to have students participate in their growth and education throughout the year.
My Project
My students need a basketball, classroom calendar and candy incentives to encourage them to continue their hard work during these long winter months.
My fifth graders work extra hard for learning and behavior incentives.
These candy treats like Airheads, Sour Patch Kids and Jolly Ranchers will work to motivate my students as we begin to prep for the state test in April. My students work hard to show me learning growth in return for a simple motivation incentive.
The last third of the year, as the weather warms up and testing ramps up, I reward good behavior and engagement with tickets. My students can use these tickets bid on using basketballs at recess, buying a squishy toy or a sweet snack.
