Reinspiring Math Education at Hardin Middle School
Help me give my students detailed whiteboards that scaffold math structures for them. Help show that math doesn't have to be hard. These will further assist instruction by allowing for immediate feedback when student demonstrate their conceptual understanding.

My Project
This catalyst for starting this project has been multi-faceted. Students in the Hardin Public School district, as is the case with many I presume, have been struggling more than what I would define as typical. The biggest impetus to this decline seems to be, to the shock of no one, the Covid-19 pandemic and all the consequences therein. Middle school students today are right on the end of the 'Neo Lost Generation', as it were. When the pandemic struck and students were asked to continue their education from home, these students in particular were set up for an educational career desitined to harbor difficulties. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades are irrevocably important in setting students up for future success. With those metamorphic years thrown to chaos, students are entering into middle school with barely any understanding of the necessary components on which they are expected to build upon.
So why would whiteboards be paramount in student success?
Whiteboards can offer myriad benefits in the classroom. On a whiteboard, students are often less concerned with providing a correct answer, after all, they can simply erase their response before anyone notices! This can lead to a much higher level of participation, and that participation is how they will start to form those new neural pathways. Trying and failing is the first step to success, after all. There's also the facet of feedback to consider. Whiteboards can be easily read from a distance, quickly giving a correct or try again response, and can be easily shared with peers should the need arise. These particular whiteboards are unique in that they also provide scaffolding for various mathematical systems. No more making a mistake in long devision because the numbers didn't line up; stay in the lines. Providing students with proper tools ensures future success.
