Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a Title I campus which means it is a school of high poverty. Many of our parents work multiple jobs to make ends meet. It is a neighborhood school, and most students walk to school. Eighty percent of my students are English Language Learners who struggle with reading and math.
Classrooms which are student-centered are successful.
My goal is to increase engagement in a student-centered classroom to help set up my students for success. I incorporate a variety of learning strategies, projects and options to help meet students where they are and achieve their goals.
My Project
The K'Nex, Lincoln Logs in this project are hands-on manipulatives to create STEM bins for our classroom. Our goal is for our classroom to look like 2019. These resources will be used to help students improve their creative thinking by providing more opportunities for problem solving skills, as well as providing a hands-on opportunity for students to learn and become creators of content. STEM bins also allow students to use their imagination while utilizing math, science and engineering processes. This project falls inline with our goal to reimagine the classroom, increase student engagement in our student-centered classroom as we incorporate a variety of learning strategies, projects, and options to meet student learning goals.
