This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Title I middle school located in a high poverty area. All of my students have special needs and most of them have more than one. The needs vary from intellectual to physical.

My students come to school ready to learn and are always ready to get into activities that require hands on work.

They also enjoy the leisure time I allow them during the day to focus on the things they love. I always try and have a variety of options for their very inquisitive minds.

I work closely with their parents to ensure that the activities in my classroom are not only educational, but also engaging for each student. Involving the parents helps me to individualize the instruction they get. I want my students to look forward to learning.

My Project

Each of my students are very unique, but the one thing they have in common is the love of creating. Along with their core subjects such as math and reading, I implement art/crafts into every day as well.

Allowing my students an outlet to create gives them the autonomy they lack in most other tasks they perform.

Each of my students has varying disabilities that we have to focus on every day and they are required to do their tasks in a certain, predetermined way. Art allows them to just be themselves and create without boundaries.
