I have the pleasure of working with middle and high school students in an out-of-district special education school. The students that I work with have a variety of needs that myself and my team work tirelessly to meet in unique ways that many schools don’t have the opportunity to. We have a committed staff that loves to build rapport with the students and provide instruction academically as well as socially and emotionally. We strive to teach our students important life skills that will create lifelong learners. However, the dedication I have for my students is not enough meet all of their needs on my own!
The students in my classroom have come to our school with a new start and a new beginning in their education, despite any challenges they may have faced in the past.
Even though their previous school experiences may have been negative, I am hoping to bring a more positive atmosphere to our classroom by purchasing new furnishings for them to use. The space that I am creating will also allow students to take a “brain break” when they are feeling frustrated. This space will provide comfortable seating for students to refresh themselves before returning to work. Flexible seating, comfortable rugs to sit on, and tools that help organize my classroom would create an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and will reenergize my students and create a new spark for their love of learning!
